Rampage JacksonFormer Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, and budding Hollywood movie-star Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, is ready to return to action on May 29 to finally face down the long-standing feud with arch nemesis, Rashad Evans.

Jackson has recently been starring in a movie remake of the popular, early-1980s action show, “The A-Team,” and nonetheless remains one of my all-time favorite UFC cagefighters. Read more…

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brock Lesnar: UFC Commentator Joe Rogan’s HDNet Debate

Joe RoganLove him or hate him, aspiring stand-up comic and former Fear Factor reality show MC Joe Rogan is never short on colorful verbiage.

In addition to that, he is also an accomplished martial arts practitioner who holds a black belt in taekwondo and a brown belt in 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu under his mentor Eddie Bravo.

What Rogan is most known for, however, is his role—alongside Mike Goldberg—as one half of the veteran voice of the Octagon’s UFC commentating team. Read more…

UFC’s Joe Rogan to James Toney: Brock Lesnar’s “Going To Be Your Master”

Brock LesnarIn a recent YouTube.com video (posted below), the somewhat controversial UFC cagefighting commentator Joe Rogan weighs in on the ridiculous idea that legendary boxer James Toney, who is a soft 6′0″, 225 pounds and whose prime years came a decade ago, is now calling out the 6′4″, 290-pound beast and current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

To say that Rogan voiced his opinion in dramatic fashion would be a huge understatement.

Rogan asserted that the mammoth Lesnar would take Toney’s best punch and virtually “eat it” beforing lifting Toney up “like [he's] a pillow.” Read more…

A Clash of Titans: Alistair Overeem Vs. Matt Rogers

Alistair OvereemIf you are in the St. Louis, Missouri area on the weekend of May 15th, you might want to keep your kids indoors (especially all little girls, if you have seen the video of Alistair Overeem laying a vicious leg kick to a girl holding pads, which I should add, was set-up and all in fun!).

Two monstrous human specimens will do battle that weekend to determine the Strikeforce heavyweight champion! Brett “The Grim” Rogers (10-1) will do battle with current Strikeforce champion, Alistair “The Demolition Man” Overeem (32-11 MMA; 6-4 K1). Read more…

UFC 116 Rumor: Randy Couture vs. Chuck Liddell IV?

liddell couture fourAccording to Heavy.com scribe Jeremy Botter, there have been recent reports that the UFC is now contemplating a fourth in the trilogy of fights between Randy “The Natural” Couture, and Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell for UFC 116, in July of this year.

The middle-aged yet seemingly ageless 46-year-old MMA legend Couture has previously lost twice in the “Randy vs Chuck” trilogy.

“The Natural,” at the time, quite “naturally” felt that the two career setbacks should be his last. Read more…

UFC Fighter/Pro Boxer Alessio Sakara “Calls Out” Michael Bisping

alessio sakaraAccording to a recent article at MMA Mania, Italian mixed martial arts fighter, boxer, and current UFC middleweight Alessio Sakara, is looking to “get it on” with Manchester England’s Michael “The Count” Bisping.

Sakara, who trains with American Top Team, holds a great pro boxing record of 8-1, with six wins coming by way of KO, yet, despite a current three-fight UFC winning streak, his MMA record stands at a mere 15-7.

“Legionarius,” as he is known in fighting circles, was last seen defeating former 205-pound UFC light heavyweight contender James Irvin at UFC on Versus this past March. Read more…

Is MMA Trying to Kill the “Closed Guard”?

fight matchAn interview following UFC 109 by Mike Straka, Jon Fitch stated that the closed guard in MMA was “dead”. He added that unless you are Shinya Aoki or Demian Maia the fighter needs to get back on his feet or suffer a beating by a strong wrestler.

I have heard this argument before when a recent study revealed only 21.5% of UFC fights dating back to July 11th, 2009 have ended in submission opposed to the 31.5% by TKO and 46% by decision. I believe that it’s important to remind everyone that this study targets only Ultimate Fighting Championship bouts and not other major promotions. Read more…

UFC 111 Recap: Unlike Georges St. Pierre, Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy Will Never Surrender

Dan The Outlaw HardyThere’s a catchy little tune by British-born pop star Dido that, in essence, goes something like this: “There will be no white flag above my door…I will go down with this ship, and I won’t put my hands up and surrender.”

Last night it seemed the clever songstress may have been serenading about her fellow countryman, Nottingham, England’s Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy.

Hardy, 27, was thoroughly—and not surprisingly—dominated over the course of five rounds last evening during his UFC 111 title run, by the fighter who is now arguably the greatest mixed martial arts welterweight to have ever entered the famed Octagon. Read more…

The two main event competitors are 170-pound French Canadian UFC champion Georges St-Pierre and the challenger to his throne, British No. 1 contender Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy—two men who are undoubtedly at the top of their games.
