Fedor Emeliankenko and Joe "Daddy" Stevenson Released

Two more fighters have followed the Golden Glory ousting out of Zuffa. M-1’s sugar daddy Fedor Emeliankenko (31-4-1) and The Ultimate Fighter season two winner Joe Stevenson (31-14), find themselves out of work as they are the most recent victims of the UFC’s unemployment axe.

A sad day for former Pride fans everywhere, The Last Emperor has now lost three straight matches, more defeats than he’s had in his entire career, which had spanned nine years and previously only one loss due to cuts until a slick submission victory by Fabricio Werdum.

Fans and pundits alike believed Fedor would make a rebound, as being caught in a submission by one of the best BJJ players in the heavyweight division isn’t anything to be ashamed about. And this is Fedor after all. But a thrashing at the hands of Antonio Silva shined further doubt onto the status of the Sambo champion’s current status among heavyweights.

With Dana White’s known dislike for M-1 and years of discrediting Fedor there was no guarantee that, even if the Russian did beat Dan Henderson, he would keep his job. Without that victory he all but sealed his fate. Most likely he will be headlining M-1 promotional shows until his retirement.

Joe “Daddy” Stevenson got the standard treatment for a TUF winner: four straight losses then you’re out. The TUF winner was 8-8 in his overall UFC career and 3 and 7 in his last ten. Most recently suffered a loss to Cuban BJJ wizard Javier Vazquez, who soundly out struck Daddy. It was Stevenson’s first fight at featherweight, a move to try to rejuvenate his failing career, but he seemed hesitant to pull the trigger, utilizing good foot work and head movement but not much.

With the loss he joins Travis Lutter, Kendall Grove, and Efrain Escudero  in the select group of TUF winners who were released from Zuffa employment.

Hopefully both of these fighters can.
