Brock Lesnar Set to Return to the Octagon at UFC 141

On-going health issues have been a problem for Brock Lesnar for the past two years. After a case of mononucleosis in 2009 was discovered, Lesnar had to pull out of his fight with Shane Carwin on the UFC 106 card. It was later determined that Lesnar was also suffering for diverticulitis, which is a digestion disease found in the large intestine. Battling back from his health issue he looked determined to get back to action.

After coming back Lesnar looked regain his belt after Shane Carwin won a match against Frank Mir to grab the interim title. He would get that shot at UFC 116 against Carwin. Coming into the title fight Lesnar said he had felt his cardio was great and was ready to take back what was rightfully his. Lesnar would get rocked early in the first round and have to survive Carwin’s ground and pound. But early in the second round Lesnar would take down Carwin and catch him in a arm-triangle choke, thus taking back the heavyweight belt.

Next up for the champ would be #1 title contender Cain Velasquez at UFC 121. Back and forth the two fighters were exchanging punches and kicks in the first three minutes of the first round. That was until Velasquez dropped Lesnar with a barrage of punches and knees. The ref would stop the fight with :48 seconds left in round one, thus losing the belt to Velasquez.

Lesnar would have another battle with diverticulitis after it was discovered in May 2011. He underwent surgery to remover part of his intestine that would keep him out of action for some time. In August, Lesnar would say on video that he is ready to return to the octagon and that he has completely healed from his surgery. Lesnar claims that he has never felt healthier and feels like his old self.

Next on tap for Lesnar is UFC 141, where he is set to go up against Alistair Overeem in a non-title heavyweight fight.

For Lesnar’s sake, I for one hope he truly is the old Brock before his health issues. He is one of the most dangerous heavyweights currently in the UFC. Tune in and find out for yourself at UFC 141.
